Course Overview
The Fashion Design course is offered under the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework in accordance with TVET CDACC standards and National industrial Training Authority (NITA). The program is designed to equip trainees with knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values (KSAVs) required for effective performance in the fashion and garment-making industry.
The course is offered at level 3-6 for TVET CDACC , and Grade III and grade II for NITA, with emphasis on garment construction, pattern drafting, fashion design, textile handling, and fashion entrepreneurship, to meet occupational standards and labour market requirements.

Graduates may be engaged in formal employment, self-employment, or enterprise development within fashion houses, garment manufacturing industries, tailoring units, boutiques, retail outlets, and creative production studios, both locally and internationally.
Entry Requirements
(Level 6):
KCSE C- (Minus) and above
Duration: 1½ – 2 years
(Level 5):
KCSE D (Plain)
Duration: 1 year
(Level 3/4):
KCPE or KCSE D- (Minus)
Duration: 3 – 6 months
NITA -Open
ASSESSMENT AND EXAMINATION
Assessment is conducted in line with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) and National industrial Training Authority (NITA) guidelines and includes:
Continuous formative assessment (Theory and Practical)
Internal summative assessment by the institution
External assessment and certification by:
TVET CDACC
National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) (where applicable)
This approach ensures assessment of both learning outcomes and occupational competence in line with national standards.
CERTIFICATION
Upon successful completion and assessment, candidates are eligible for the following awards, subject to the examination body:
Institutional Certificate
Issued by the training institution upon successful completion of institutional assessments.
TVET CDACC Certificate
Awarded by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council (TVET CDACC) upon successful external assessment in accordance with approved occupational standards.
NITA Trade Test Certificate
Issued by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) after successful completion of the prescribed trade test at Grade III, II, or I.
Certification is subject to compliance with TVET CDACC and NITA assessment regulations.
